oil Pump
I have a Bikers Choice oil pump on my 76 shovel. Here's the dilemma, I was having issue with oil returning to tank, it spewing out of overflow hose. Took the pump apart, a trusted buddy and solid wrench told me to drill (the S&S process) a hole through the case to help with oil flow. He sent me the drill jig and I did that, rightly or wrongly (thinkin the latter). Put it all back together and bolted down to 95 in/pounds. Primed pump started him up and no more oil spewing through overflow. Now my problem is oil is oozing out between the top of the oil pump and the cam case, a lot. So questions are:
1. Did I tighten the pump bolts enough, I torqued the bolts in rotation starting with a low torque easing my way to 95in/lbs. the book calls for a range 90 - 110 inch pound, should I torque up to 110. .
2. Is the "S&S hole through the case the cause of the problem? Could I plug with some J B Weld to stop the flow.
3. Should I just say screw it and opt for the S&S pump, the hole is already there....
4. If I were to get an S&S pump could I re-use the existing oil pump driveshaft saving having to reopen the cam chest and all that entails.
Thanks
you S&S modded a none S&S pump operation - but the directions for S&S has changed at least 6 or 8 times over the years -
what we would have done is replace the pressure with the early first edition -68 spring - this would have lower the amount of oil that pump put in the engine as its a evo pump on a shovel
