Thanks panz4ever, battery tray that was attached to the oil tank was the wrong tray for the bike. NONE of the mounting tabs came anywhere near where they needed to be. Bought a chrome tray off evilbay. It has holes for the big relay but after what Racepres said I kinda want the Delco Remy style. I am not above drilling a hole or two in my aftermarket tray and adding a small mount. Maybe later can transfer over to the lever style relay. Would look cool with the foot clutch and police shift.
Next Post???? My Button on my handlebar is KaPutt..
I did forget about that little oblong relay they used in between there someplace.. I do Not remember them using excessive current to fire...so Maybe OK...Me? I stick to the Bosch relay.. something that MoCo Used for a Very Long Time!!!!!
Racepres, are you talking about the small square relays when you say Bosh? What part number?
Yes..plastic, square..

I do Not trust the 1973 - 1982 start button to handle anything requiring more current than the Bosch relay.. Hell, The Replacement starter/horn buttons from???? IDK where...but ... East!! May Not handle the current to fire a Bosch relay!!!! I buy all the O.E. Handlebar controls and switches I see!!! Too many problems with **** from Offshore!!!

Let me dig out the battery tray for you. Think I may even have an aftermarket relay (Delco Remy style) as well. As I recall it is definitely for the cone motors cus it doesn't have the voltage regulator mount on it.
The old ford relay/ solenoid that was used for many years has a very high draw for the switch.
I am using a newer style relay. It draws much less on the tiny handle bar starter switch.

Just need to run a ground to the other push on spade as the mounting is not the ground like on the Ford relay.
And the ground to the battery tray is suspect...as all that **** is iso Mounted.

Or.... Simply use the system that the MoCo ended up using!!! If bone Stock was desireable...then all FXR's would still be running that Stupid exhaust mount "donut", and ruining Exhaust systems!!!! Like Said...Even the MoCo is/was capable of Learning..
