I purchased my 74 FLH almost two years ago and it hadn't been on the road in almost 20 years. I rebuilt the original Bendix with the expensive kit. Little did I know I put a little kink in the accelerator pump diaphragm and I couldn't get the bike to run right or idle. I was at the same crossroads as you. Pay the extra for another kit or try and piece it together. I went the expensive route and I made sure to install the pump correctly. That bike runs like a champ now. Idles good, etc..
Pay once, cry once when it comes to certain things. This carb kit is one of those times.
Hey Marty I am having trouble gettting the float to shut off. The import needle is longer and I had to readjust the float and it still flows right out of the carb. Put another stock one in and the same thing.
I have the float set at 3/16th and with one of my 3 needles I can hold down on the float and it seals off good. Put it on bike and gas flows right through. You think I may have the float spring wrong?
If so can you send me pic of which way it is supposed to go.
Brad; That carb comes with a Spring to help the float to float (they do Not always)
The Spring is Tedious...and most cannot get it right...message me, or, ensure the Spring is Not captive between float bowl and carb body...the spring "arm" belongs Inside the float!!
Got it figured out thanks to Raceprez thanks Marty. I found the float spring was bad .Found another one that wasnt rusted or bent and it fixed it. Now I found the tires are weather cracking. ALWAYS SOMETHING on these old bikes. But hey I may not be able to ride it this yr if my leg doesnt heal up and cooperate.
