Way back we did just that and did the top so engine removal does not have to happen BUT always a BUT - 3 of the 5 the frame broke guys hitting it with compression and cams

stock dead no power no cam engine maybe - lost track of the other 2 but my guess heat cycles did them as well - trade off is scary when it comes apart

in a turn and on the throttle is goes away you may not have another chance

Aftermarket frames tend to not be as tight as OEM, the are designed to be multi use.
