Default Cometic gaskets and strange hole

Ok guys I'm about to reassemble my 1976 74" shovel and I'm using Cometic gaskets. I've always used these and have always installed dry on twinkies. I've been reading a lot of different input on using them on shovels and there are several individuals that use them and apply ultra grey to the rocker and base gaskets. Is this wise or just not necessary? Yes I have the proper manual but were talking cometic vs paper. I am using the cometics because its what I have. Just need some input on on dry or ultra grey and on which gaskets...tappet blocks, base, rockers...etc.
Now weird hole. The case has a hole on the cone side front cylinder area. The cometic gasket has a hole on the base gasket but it isn't even close to lining up with the hole in the case. I read where some say no need for the hole and others say its supposed to be open and to drill a hole in the gasket for it.. motor is ***** stock and original parts. There is a tab that has a "bump" in the gasket that looks as if it covers the hole completely with an indented area that could be drilled out but do I need it? Assuming its an oil passage of sorts but why only one in the front cylinder case?

no need for it to have a hole there,
its a manufacturing drilling for the tappet block oil gallery, once drilled it is plugged up, otherwise theres no way to drill the oil gallery

Early panhead engines 1948 to 1962 the oil that feeds the rocker assemblies went through the block at that spot and up through the jugs into the heads

those gaskets front and rear have a hole so that can happen — later pan and shovel gaskets do not have the feed holes only the drain

flat side shovel through cone they plug that hole front and rear as the oil now feeds externally

we have seen more then one later engine that had a right side oil leak behind the lifter blocks / the plug was bleeding - clean well and add just a dab of Yama bond 4 to both holes and razor blade the excess off the deck

ok thanks for the info...so what about the cometic gaskets? Use sealant on those or no. Never used prior but some say use on shovels. Idk. One guy on YouTube was putting them together and used Ultra grey on just the rocker boxes but nothing on base. Trying to get this thing together the weekend but I'm only planning on doing it once. Thanks again guys for the input.

I do not use anything as they tell you not to as the sealant makes the sealing iffy - cometic - but paper base i do spray hylomer - and copper we paint silver spray
