I finally stripped a head stud. I'm assuming this can be fixed with a 3/8-16 helicoil.

 

Heli-Coil or a Timesert ... Time sert is a bit easier t use but a little more pricey

No Timesert for me...I use threaded inserts from Fastenall...thin wall (close tolerance) usually...and No Odd Size tooling required!!!
Edit; Tho a helicoil would be just fine in this application!!! And... those are 5/16 fasteners!!

 

I had a time sert put in to the exhaust pipe hole in the read head because the original hole got wallered out. It looks real good. Thanks.

 

Time-serts were invented about 5 minutes after the aluminum head was introduced!

Originally??? Yes... Hard to do with any insert!! That ship has sailed!!

by asshats who invented their Own Thread spec... yet people still expound their Virtues... Give me an insert that uses readily available thread pitches and taps!!! I have that **** on the Bench!!!!
Helicoil gets a Pass....no need to go bigger than necessary...and not Over Priced!!!!

Stock Harley heads, and S&S heads use different thread sizes. 😉
