Default 4 Speed Question

This may have been addressed before, I don’t know. If so, I apologize. I have a basket case I recently picked up. It’s an 81 FXWG. It has the stock rotary 4 speed with hydraulic clutch setup. The case on this tranny has been chaffed through by the chain. I’m turning this bike into a bobber and want to put a foot clutch/hand shift setup. Ratchet tops are a more desired tranny for this. That being said, can I pull the gear set out of the cow pie case and put it in a ratchet top case. I’ve found aftermarket cases with new ratchet top assemblies. Is this doable? I would also like to keep the hydraulic clutch cover and set up a hydraulic foot clutch. Has anyone seen/done this?
Thanks for any advice you may have!

No speedo in a cow pie

hi gear is different as the cow pie has a caged bearing not loose rollers like a ratchet - cage is pressed into the case

counter shaft is different because it also has caged bearings and the shaft side bushings are a different size for open roller and closed cage

tank shift is only going to be a front tank mounted jockey type shifting as in rocketing it one way or the other up shift down shift

nothing to gain — making an arm off the turtle top so you can select is all you can do and keep what you have

I’m really not concerned with a Speedo. Wasn’t planning on running one anyway. I just basically wanted to know if I could move the gear set from the cow pie to the ratchet and if it would work. I just don’t know if they’re compatible.

The cow pie case has been chaffed through by the chain. I need a new case. Was looking at options and which way to go. I appreciate the input guys.
