Hi folks
Question , is the pinion shaft on an Early 80" crank 79- Early 80.different than late 80 to 84?
I only ask because I assumed I had a 1982 shovel and when I sent the bottom end to shop to replace pinion , crank and drive shaft replaced.
I got a call saying it wasn't a 1982 flywheel but 1981 and that's the parts he ordered and installed.
But according to the marks on flywheel and finding TDC , this crank appears to be early 1980 or earlier.
What year ranged are these pinion shafts ?
E.g. 80 to 84, 77-79 etc etc
Would the keyway change there fore changing the gear timing?
Part number changed in mid-81 according to parts books for timing side and also for sprocket side (although there are 3 changes of those over the years.
I very much doubt ant changes were made that altered the timing as timing alignment didn't change and cam gear only changed in tooth pitch, they can be fitted to most years of cam.
Oil feed changed, went from port on the shaft to end feed think it was 73 on, they went a larger flywheel key and don’t hold me to this I think there was a taper & nut thread change also 81 and later. Don’t remember if oil port on the taper changed changed position, been a while since I did a later set.
