I have a 1975 Flh that I am having issues with the starter bendix catching the ring gear, it seems like it sits a little to low. I have replaced the starter solenoid and I have replaced the bendix. It sits fine in the primary cover and seems lined up fine otherwise but it just doesn’t seem to work. Thanks in advance.
Stock or aftermarket outer cover? Lot of the shiny aftermarkets are crap, last do you have the copper washer in and is the little 1/8" alignment pin in the cover, inner or outer either one, just needs to be there.

It has the stock outer cover, the washer is there and I am not 100% sure what you mean by alignment pin. If you might have a pic so I could possibly understand better that would be grateful

See the 1/8" hole on the right just above the 1/4" one? should be a short pin in one of the 2 primarys, sometimes sticks in the outer. That's your alignment/ locating pin.

I don’t have either one of those 2 pins on either the out or inner primary.
check the needle bearings in the starter housing and outer primary
I know for a fact that the bearing on the outer primary is new but idk about condition of the one in the starter. It just doesn’t make sense to me that it would work then I replace the solenoid and the bendix and know it doesn’t work. Thanks
mechanically, everything works fine except after putting a solenoid on it and bendix now it seems to be 1/4-1/8 to low for it to engage the ring gear
How do you know? Are you using a Bendix viewer?
Twizted was referencing the small hole to the right of the bendix gear shaft in the photo, ignore the painted arrows.
