Serial numbers aren't always strictly sequential. Harley production at the time was less standardized than it is today, so the numbers don't always reflect the motorcycle's actual position in the production line. For more accurate information, use window sticker lookup by vin at https://carfast.express/en/window_sticker and you'll get a specification sheet as it was when the motorcycle rolled off the assembly line.

Been that way as long as I can remember.

Every bike I have ever bought, the first thing I do is remove the dam reflectors. i always say, "it is not a Schwinn".

I buy my 1970 FLH and she is about 75% stock, I fall down the rabbit hole and start going closer to stock. I spent at least $400 buying f-in reflectors for the bike. Almost killed me, but the holes where there in the fender for them.

I believe they call that irony.

PS I keep all the reflectors I remove, just in case.

Doesn't seem to work on the short 1980 VIN.

Oh for sure, I guess the dichotomy was lost on me until my thought occurred.

I know. All the guys that wear the traffic cone vest tell me how crazy I was/am. Never kept them. On older bikes and the Crossbones, I'm doing a full fenders on I also prefer no signal lights. Just happens the FXB had them already removed, as did the Crossbones.

OK, finally got around to buying a muffler mount bracket, which arrives today. I pulled my drag pipes off last night, and the hardware at the heads has been heated to the point where there is no coating left on the bolts; what should be used there? Standard zinc-plated hardware? SS? Copper paste on the threads?

EDIT I'm seeing a lot of locking tab/clip setups online, but after thinking about it, I'm leaning toward just going with standard allen heads & drilling & safety-wiring them.
