Yes, but even shorter stretch (I find it short already) and wouldn't align with the other peg.

I have no issue notching the plate. I'm looking for a shorter acorn to solve the other point of contact, though.

Gotcha, I thought you were saying it was far away now.

Well, I stole some time away from being responsible and worked on the bike a bit. It started off as usual:

Since the fender was coming off, I went ahead and cut out the aftermarket brake/tail/turn module to return the wiring to the factory arrangement (I'm going to have to break down and buy a service manual)

The point of this disassembly was to locate the source of the leak at the clutch area and to remove parts for recoating in gloss black/satin black/wrinkle as appropriate (you guys know this bike is super-faded).
Well, the primary is caked with oil sludge. As well as the stuff behind it.
Going to need a manual for sure, so I'm just cleaning parts for dechroming and coating in the interim.

(gross.) (also, what belt system is that? BDS?)

- and I guess it is just as well that the inner primary needs to come off to go after that leak, since the front outer cover mount is broken.

The ice storm is rolling in to NC tonight & through the weekend, but the parts washer is heated, so there's that.

Good luck with it mate!

Our '80s Sturgis is up on the website (sissy-bar pad and bag still to be put on) - https://hddev.com.au/product/1980-ha...n-fxb-sturgis/

Also found this while while looking for specific details on the 80s model (seat has buttons & sissy-bar pad doesn't have a rectangle underneath logo) - https://www.mecum.com/lots/489424/19...n-sturgis-fxb/
