Default Early 79 FXE shift lever

Hi, I have an early 79 FXE that I am putting the mid shifter back on through the primary with ratchet top tranny. The part number for the shift lever is 34574-74. Late 79 is rotary top tranny and the shifter part number is 34574-79. Does anybody know if there is a difference between the shifters? Thanks.

Just looking at pics after googling the p/n`s
It appears to me the early one has more off an offset kink than the later one
Dennis Kirk website pops up with "will not fit" if you mix model year and part number
Then again, I could be F.O.S.

Well okay, I appreciate that. I couldn't tell the difference. I'll make sure I get the -74.
