well, that's better (not perfect, but better. - and yes, I did end up pushing the rubber trim down to meet the dash trim panel).

I'm thinking the tanks are factory at this point, since centering them around the mounting bolts seems to have done the trick. When I'm ready to paint/clear them, I'll probably weld a centering washer to the mounts and delete the rubber bushings for an even better fit.

Oh yeah - got rid of that supplemental ground wire while I was in there - just factory dash wires now.

Thanks!

Full disclosure (for market value research) - I paid $400 for the exhaust system.

It was from a '77 low rider (which is why it didn't pop up on "sturgis" or "FXB" searches on Marketplace), but with a replacement muffler from 1980 (so perfect for the FXB). The muffler is a bit cruddy on the back side, so I have a little work to do, but the pipes are great. No heat shields, since it is from 1977, so I need to find those. Also missing a muffler mount, which I'm looking for as well.

Now looking for the correct mirrors and a sissy bar bag.

Pretty sure the 77 FXS had a slash cut 2 into 1. My ‘78 FXS has the slash cut original correct part number. I believe there are supposed to be heat shields on the header pipes on the Low Rider models 2 into 1.

not to detract from the topic, just for posterity for future users trying to determine correctness. Someone please correct if I’m mistaken.

Nice bike! Following the thread.

That's right, but in this instance, the muffler was replaced in 1980 (tapered, correct for the FXB).
I may be wrong, but I believe the primary pipes are the same for both models, only the muffler changes. (Well, plus the heat shields, which were also 1980 parts if I'm not mistaken)

Oops! Looks like '77 pipes have a different part number!

That bag is in good shape and would clean up nice, but seller is very proud of it, that is ALL the money.

The thought occurred to me that some people buy new bikes and immediately look to customize it while other buy old bikes and seek to put it back.
