Cheers for the shoutout! We've got a 1980 FXB that's waiting on a seat before it'll be complete. Under 5k miles, 2in1 pipes and blacked out - VIN 1H57017J0

Can we get a quick sneak peek at the gauge-to-tank fitment?
I have read a couple of times that the gap between the tanks and dash was the way they came up until '82 or '83. At that time the factory came out with the rubber filler for that and looking at the parts book it looks like that may be the case.
That would make sense, based on what I'm seeing online.
I have the later rubber seal (see my chrome dash pictures) - but it doesn't span the entire gap, either.

While I don't know much about the Sturgis. The '84 FXS here came with that Spacer. and, the '79 FXS also had that Spacer gizzy in the box with alot of other "essentials"
If I get one out yet this winter I will check just How I got the thing to sit where I wanted.
But, Most Probably bending Tabs and using spacers to Suit Me... Looks Matter

The rubber filler you have is aftermarket, nobody liked the gap and almost everybody used the piece of aftermarket rubber to fill the gap. I heard that even the dealers were installing them back in the day to quell the complaints. I had a brand new in the package Harley (after '81) piece and it does not look like what you or I have. I sold the Harley made one because it was not correct for my year bike ('81) and used a new after market piece like the one you have now. My bike came with the after market that was cracked even more that yours that showed its age. Chrome dash is not they way the bike came new.

Thanks Ken! I'll have a look for that part number, although I'm leaning toward running without, to be more like the bike when it was delivered originally, if they were delivered that ugly, lol

Yep, there were a lot of things on this bike that were "improved" by the previous owners. Appreciate you all helping me with those details.
