Anything but the Dyna "S". The Dyna 2000i or any other system will work good. The Dyna "S" has inherant problems in the design.

It`s a little complicated, kinda. The shovel, as most Harleys have two cylinders. one coil, and one point of spark. Now it take two sparks at different times to fire the motor. A stock (igintion) sends spark to the coil then the cylinders. But it`s sending the spark to both each time, a single fire only sends the spark to the cylinder the is on it`s compression stroke, stopping what some call the duel igintion carb-caugh. As to what kind to buy, good question & good luck!

Concur w/ Springer......

I installed the 2000i on a 76 Shovel, easily installed, easy to manage, and gives you the flexibility of single or dual (Wasted) spark configs...

Two coils, relatively compact, and extremely powerful...

I installed mine in 89, coils are anything but compact, I stuck a set of at the time we`re the trick-ticket Rivera duel plugs, so I`ve got two, yes I said two, dyna duel post coils. I get a bruise from the coil cover everytime I go for a put!

Depending on what you are running for a coil mount and the type of bike, there is a nice conversion we used to do to resolve the problem you mention. We used to use a FXR top motor mount and run a Vulcan (Motorway Engineering) FXR dual coil bracket. It allows you to mount the dual dyna or revtech coils off the motor mount and out of the way. It looks slick works well.

If you should want more info, let me know.

Thanks for the info. I just got hit by the IRS, $27plus. I thought we were getting back. I`m in that "if it ain`t broke don`t fix it, cause I`m broke mode". Almost glad that it`s been raining so much now. When it rains, don`t ride, when I don`t ride the shovel don`t break. That`s easy!!

Hey,
I love my DYNA S single-fire system.
Specifically, it's the DS6-2 with a pair of DC8-1 hand grenade coils.
I went through 2 SPYKE setups in 3 years and said "screw it"!!!
I duo-plugged my heads and my shovel has been 'all it can be' now for 4 flawless years. When I say 4 years, I mean 4 years... we ride all year here in Florida.
For 74 inches, I dare say I have the smoothest, most vibration-free shovel in the world.
She's bored to .060 over with Wiseco K1611 pistons, Andrews B grind, S&S heads & Super 'E' carb, Jim's hydraulic improved angle lifters & rods and a Jim's oil pump.
I had Magnacor wires made up special for my duo-plugs. Oh yeah... the rubber mounts and 5-speed might have somethin' to do with it...
