Default shovelhead exhaust issues

I have an '86 belt drive shovel FLT .60 over 10.8:1 comp fire breathing shovel, I can not for the life of me keep the exhaust on that think. The mount keeps breaking at the frame. It has been welded numerous times and keeps on keepin' on. I renforced the bracket up the a$$ and welded the snot out of it and guess what...the exh flange is leaking at the rear cyl.

Are there rubber mounted systems I can get? I am lookin for new-(new to me) exh anyway anny suggestions?

Are you saying you installed a Shovelhead engine in a 1986 motorcycle? An '86 big twin should have an EVO in it unless it is a special construction/custom bike.
Is your engine/tranny rubber mounted? If so, then you would benefit from a rubber mounted exhaust system. From the way you worded your post, I take it you are a welder. You should be able to cook something up. If you didn't want to make up a rubber mounted system anchored on the frame, maybe you could run your exhaust mounts from the engine/tranny so they will all move in concert.
Good luck to you whatever you decide.

I gotta get out to the barn to get some pics. It was gonna be my winter project but you know how that goes. It is a stock shovel/belt combo. It was factory pinstriped with the words "belt drive" on the fender.

the exhaust is bolted to the frame but it keeps breaking in front of where it bolts. like i said, i finally got the weld to hold but now that there is absolutely no play, the rear exh. flange leaks.
Besides all that the pipes are shotty pitty and ugly. I was really hoping to find a newer set alltogether.

I'm missing something here You cannot rigidly mount an exhaust system off the frame on a rubber mounted FLT You have to mount the exhaust system off the engine The back mufflers (assuming duals one right one left ) mounted on rubber under the saddlebags !! The trany and engine are one mounted in rubber the exhaust system has to be mounted to this combo

thats what i am missing. there is no rubber mount. the brackets of the exhaust bolt directly to the frame under the saddlebag. it does not appear as though there ever was a rubber mount as long as i have known the bike. the old timer that first built this thing does not remember when its time to pee let alone what he has done to it. everything else is good other than this one issue. I either need the rubber mount or new pipes. I always wondered if there was a rubber mount. thought there should be.

FLT's were Rubber Glides so the exhaust has to give also. They have to be setup the same as any of the newer FLH's, check one out some time at your nearest H-D shop. They usually have a mount off of the rear lower bag bracket where they can slide font to rear, your gonna eventually either crack the head or snap or strip the bolt for the pipe, good luck.

Default 86 shovel???????????

i've owned an 84 shovel-beltdrive lowrider for 13 yrs....the LAST OF ITS KIND as far as i know. Am I missing something? But i do know to tighten the manifold first and shim frame mount after,if it is indeed a shovel. Aftermarket doesn't always line up.Otherwise u can easily modify a dirtbike exhaust rubber mount
