Default 73 shovel kicker only dont want to start

I just purchased this bike. I went thru and re wired the whole thing. I put a new accel capacitor on it. I went thru the carb S&S super E. I timed it cleaned out the tanks and everything in between. Kick starting the bike to begin with is very hard. Im talking 100-200 kicks before it will go. It will fire almost every time you kick it but just wont take off. You can push start it very easy. ONCE THE BIKE STARTS AND RUNS FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES YOU CAN SHUT IT OFF AND IT WILL KICK RIGHT OVER ITS JUST THE INTIAL START. PLEASE CAN ANYBODY HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM.THANKS

One thing about a kick only bike. The owner will keep it perfectly tuned!

Well turns out the coil wasnt the problem. I'm running out of ideas.everything all the way down to the wiring is new on the bike. It still starts extremely hard and then after you get it going it runs fine for awhile then it acts like it drops a cylinder. I have checked everything. It has great compression. Anybody with some ideas please let me know.

Shouldn't matter that it's a stroker. Points for ignition? I'd start with replacing them, they're not that expensive. You say it sounds like it drops a cylinder. Is it backfiring? If it is, is it thru the carb or exhaust. Carb backfire indicates lean, exhaust rich. After you run it pull your plugs and see what they look like. You may have an intake leak. One plug fouled other running lean. Do you have the super e adjust to s&s factory specs? If you don't have the installation instructions you can download them off their website. I'm running a super e on my pan. Starting I pull up the fuel enrichner, give it 2-3 twist kick it thru once turn on the ignition and it generally starts in a couple kicks. Adjust the enrichner down as it warms up. Adjust your idle by turning the idle **** in while it's running until it sputters and then turn out 1/2 turn.

How about slipping clutches Take the derby cover off and watch the clutch basket turn or not turn as you kick it ?

Your problem is in your wiring.
When you re-wired, did you use crimp connectors? (Bad!) use aircraft hook-type!
" ", was it a TOTAL re-wire, meaning did you git inside the h/bar switches?
" ", did ya MAKE CERTAIN EVERY ELECTRICAL CONNECTION HAS A SWEET
GROUND, including the handlebars?
From the info that you've posted and from my experience (ALL my scooters have been
point ign., solid lifter, "A" grind, jock-shift, 9 wire, KICK-ONLY!) your problem is in your wiring.

P.S. You DID check yer point gap, right?

Well i finally figured it out. Turns out it was a number of things. First thing i found was the bands on the carburetor were torn . I replaced those and it fired right up. So i took it out for a ride and it started to run like **** again. Finally figured out the lifters were so far out of adjustment that the valves were not opening properly. So i did the adjustments and now it starts and runs really good. Thanks for everybodys help.
