Default 71 Boattail

talked With a guy at a party last night that just bought a 71 Boattail. It currently does not have the boat tail on it but it came with the bike. He's looking for the rear fender and struts that go with the boat tail. Anyone got any pieces that will fit this bike?

I know a guy that has the fender. Not sure if he would want to sell it or not. I can swing by in the next week or two and check. It's even red, white, and blue still.

He should be able to use FLH struts, and iirc, the fender was just a sawed off fender that fit up under the boattail on the one I had. Hope this helps.

He's gonna make a fender if he can't find one but wants to make it as original as possible. He was eyein the fender struts on my 76 FLH sayin they'd work fine...

he would need fx struts,,not flh struts,,the fender width is different and the hole spacing is different between the two

On the 71 & early 72 (rare) FX's w/ boattail rear fender, there was a metal subfender that was under the boattail fender which was very simular to the long front part of a rear hinged fender. If I'm not mistaken, the last bolt on the fender struts didn't bolt into the metal subfender. I'm guessing that the metal subfender is just as rare if not rarer then the boattail fender, I know back in the 70's when I removed my boattail fender the subfender stayed and served as the rear fender.
