okay so i had this kickstart tranny and it keeps breaking on me so i was wondering can i swap a new tranny with a electric start. what type of tranny can i throw into my bike? and what type of starter would i need? and if anyone has another tranny for sale that would work please let me know!! my bike is a spc const. shovelhead it has a sputhe 5 speed kick start only tranny on it right now.
Think I told you in an earlier post to get rid of that old S&S 2 throat carb they quit making those in the 80's for a reason , they don't kick start worth a f*#k period . If you get a decent carb and a good tune that bike should be a 1-2 kicker anyday of the week , mines 93" @ 91hp and it hits first kick , been that way for years . As for a starter for yours without more detailed in close pics I can't really tell you what you're gonna need to make it work . The tranny is least of things your going to have to change to put a button on that bike , like the whole belt system , starter and related parts , both primary case and cover , new battery maybe oil tank ect. ect . see what I'm trying to tell you here ?

What keeps breaking on your tranny? Just looking at the bike I would say you could drop in a rachet top or cowpie. Of course it doesn't end there. You'll have to install an inner primary, starter motor, solenoid & wiring, clutch basket with ring gear. If you keep the 3in. belt? you'll have to modify the outer primary so it has the starter gear support. If you change it out for a smaller belt or chain you can just bolt an out primary on. If you go with a chain you'll have to hook up a chain oiler off the oil pump. Can be done, depends how much you want to spend. You can usually pick up a tranny at a swap meet for about $1000-1200. Not sure if there are any aftermarket trannys that include the starter. Good luck with it.
Your bike is Damn near what I've been trying to build for the past 2 years. What are your frame specs? And springer length? I'd like to kinda dupe yours, but I have my own **** in my head i got planned

First...need to know what trans they have in there now...is it a 5 speed in a 4 speed case, or a 5 speed. Most of the 5 speed kickers are junk...the only ones that are any good require you to change the mainshaft. Even buying a quality kicker ain't cheap ($500 and up) and changing all the stuff to put a starter on will really cost. Tech cycle makes kits to put a modern starter on an existing belt drive.

hell a rec tec main is easy to swap out in a 5/4 cheap too and i know guys who run the **** out of them and they hold up very well.. but the whole setup as stated is 500 plus, I built a 5/4 using rev tec case twin cam gears and a rev tec main and 5th main and 5th counter all for less than 600 bucks shop around ebay for cheap low mile take outs BTW I used a ball and ramp clutch setup never used the kicker anyway
