Default Vin number location

I easily found the VIN on the engine but was having trouble finding the VIN on the frame of my 81' Shovelhead FLT.

Any clues on where to find it would be appreciated.

I didn't see it on the frame up near where the forks are. Nor was it on the tubes that come down from there. Could it be covered by something or underneath?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Intersting rear shock mod on your bike. Any fender cracking issues?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I could not see it in those locations. The frame and rest of bike was repainted over the years but I would think I should still be able to see it even if the paint was thick.

In regards to the low shocks. They have not effected the fender. The frame holds both the shocks and the fender.

Adirondacker, saw the pic of your FLT in shovel pics. Looks clean. Looks like it is the rubber mounted frame as well which is correct.

Like posted it should be on the right side of the neck area. Any chance it was molded over. Not sure how it is in your neck but frame/engine have to match. New purchase of old bikes can also require a VIN check.

Any way to get hold of seller if you cannot locate frame#?

Those are some major changes there for an FLT, that's one of the best I've seen customized. Looks like a newer Road King front end and tank setup.

Yea, its right on the neck. Mine is no longer legible due to a heavy powder coat. If the frames been painted, then it's a good chance you can no longer read it.

on the shovelhead frames they have a block cast on to the neck area where the number is stamped.. i have a 73 frame it is powdercoated, but the casting block isnt even there, it is raw cast iron, so i know it wasnt ground off, only numbers on entire frame before i had it powdercoated were the
73-0000 casting numbers on the rear downtubes, so i know it is HD and isnt an older frame before vin numbers, the title is a homebuilt mc off the 72 engine vin. any one here know what is going on with my bike?.. i have heard amf did some weird things with the vins from 69-79

On my '81 FLT, the frame number is stamped horizontally on the left hand side of the backbone, about 6 inches behind the neck. It was barely visible when the stock tank was on it, but now fully visible with the new tanks in place. Might look there, although I think mine may have been relocated by the previous owner due to molding on the neck.

Thanks Panz4ever, I see one spot up on the neck where it might be (covered in thick paint) and will take a pic later and try to post it here.
