That's one way another is put the wrist pin in and see if you have any twist in the front rod not side to side also the rear shouldn't have much if any side to side movement . To check the up and down like sqdealgeorge said rotate the front rod till its at top and pull up on it now smack the top if you hear a clunk rods are shot . The 3/16" in a 74 maybe in an 80" that'll throw wrist pin keepers if you have the good ones .
