need some ideas. I have replaced the carb to a s&s super b w/ intake. There happens to be an ideal problom. I used a smoke machine in the carb and found the intake bands were leaking. Replaced the bands and started same stumble checked with smoke again smoke pured out of bands on both sides. Any help
Are you using the 2 piece clamps? I have found they work great sometimes, other times they suck (literaly). The 1 piece stainless band clamps are a pain but work best. I would start again and make sure that before you tighten the intake clamps the carb is in position for the aircleaner and support bracket to mount right up without movin the carb. If you've done all that and have the right clamps, then I dont know. The band on the best 1 piece clamps overlap so your rubberband is totaly covered and evenly tight.
Another cause for the carb to not run well is the throttle shaft worn out in the carb body. Grab the ends one at a time and see if there is any forward or backward movement. If you can feel movement, remove it and inspect it. If the holes in the carb body are egged out you will need to have throttle shaft bushings machined into it. If the shaft has worn replace it. That will suck air causing inconsistant idle and in worst case the shaft to bind, causing the throttle to stick open (not fun)!! You can get rebuild kits for the B that include the throttle shaft bushings. As a matter of fact I noticed on the S&S website you can still get a brand new super B carb.
Hope this helps!

I have rebuilt the carb and the butterfly shaft is oe and tight. I am pretty sure the ideal problem is due to the bands. I have the one piece metal bands on now.
Just snug the clamps,if you get crazy with them ,it will distort the bands and cause a intake leak. The bracket is most important,it holds the carb, not the bands and clamps.........
So I found these plastic o rings that fit on the lower lip of the intake and the block. Then I took the bands and put them on. Then I used regular hose clamps and smoke tested. Perfect no leak. Now lets get the timming set.
