Default Front End Question

I need some technical help. I plan to put a FL front end on my '83 Shovel this winter and go with a 16" front wheel. My question is will later style front ends fit my 4 - speed frame style? I'm getting mixed messages and I have found a couple of later style front ends on Ebay but I want to know what will work. Any and all help will be appreciated!

the lock on the deuce front end does not line up with the frame so it doesn't work other then that it bolted right up.

recentlly put a set of fatboy trees on a '79 fxwith 2004 flht legs. Needed a bigger mastercylinder to run the dual disc brakes but it fit well enough, but again no fork lock.

If you check out my gallery you can see a pic of my '76 FXE with a 1997 Fatboy frontend. I will have to go back and see what was done to the tree to get the fork lock to line up. I will let you know later. I wanted to have dual disc also, but I didn't want to pay for new Roadking lower legs after building the bike the way it sits.

So here are some pics up close of my '75 FXE with a '97 FLST front end. The front end was ordered as a unit from HD through the Gainesville, FL HD dealer. The lock lined up fine, I'm not sure what year after was switched to the newer lock style.
