I assume you mean an fxstdi. A deuce. There is not a chip in the key, but if the bike has security system it might need to be disabled and have a new fob programmed to work with it. I do not think sportster forks will work on a softail. They are too narrow. Could be wrong though.

a set of keys will be right around $20.00. you can get the keys cut to fit your bike by using the VIN, but if you're not certain that the lock and ignition are stock, it would be best to either replace the entire set. if you have a key that works, bring it in to the dealer; there's a # on it that can be used so the new keys can be cut to fit. if none of those oprtion work for you, then you'll need to find a locksmith that can cut barrell keys.
as far as the front end goes, be sure the neck (frame) isn't tweeked (spelled "$"). I wouldn't recommend an XL front end because 1) it's a smaller front end (39mm) and it's shorter - the fxstd frame is raked, requiring a longer front end than any of the XL's. at the minimum, if the frame is ok, don't forget to change the neck bearings.
@nd thing don't go back to your post and change it after others have started to respond. once you post it leave it . you can always correct in your next post.
Check the frame, check that you can get it registered with a Salvage title, get an aftermarket 41mm FXST Wide Glide front end and wheel, there are a million out there, why mess with a 39mm Narrow Glide Sportster front end?

I have read somewhere that letter X means 39mm tubes. I think the bike needs new tubes. So if Sportster tube or front end fits it would be cheapest replacement.
Are original tubes 39 or 41mm?
I am looking for cheapest way to get this bike ridable.
Do I need to find tubes or front end for Softail? What is original tube length?
