Why did you leave it there if the place looks like chit?

Dude we replaced a snapped pinion shaft on a 1980 shovel in a back yard in Colorado Springs during a road trip once . It broke just as we hit the town line 6:30 pm on a sunday night , did all the dance with with getting a truck from guys who knew my name & rep from past visits ( long fun story that one ) got it to a buddies house who wasn't home around 2 am . R&Red the motor had a local pop the shaft in & retrue the wheels and we all rolled into the bar by 2 PM tuesday afternoon . The guy road it back to the east coast after we finished the party .
This was all done with saddle bag tools and a lot of cussing a shop should be able to turn you by thursday no sweat if they don't have to order anything .
Gonna have to find those trip pictures that one was epic .

We were at a party in Port Arthur, TX one weekend. A fella came in from Mississippi huffing smoke out the rear cylinder about 3:30. My 'ol lady and her friend pulled the top end off both F&R, took them to a local shop, got pistons fitted for a overbore. They got back and put it back together and running by 11 pm. That was done on the fly. The owner couldn't believe it (chicks doing it).
update! my friend talked to shop today and they said they put a wench on the motor and got it to turn over, they ran motor 3 times and said it has good compression and all is good. i ask him what they said locked up motor in the first place, they told him it got real hot real fast and just quit.that motor was locked up tight for 2 days when i seen it.how in the hell do they what got hurt in the motor without taking it apart? i would want the motor tore down and looked at,something has got to be damaged.before he left they talked him into rebuilding his transmission! i think his momma must have dropped him on his head when he was a baby.
oh forgot to say they did'nt take motor out of frame,i think they are trying to save themselves some money. i hope it do'nt turn out to be a smoker for him.

Well from the last 2 post's I'm guessing somebody blew it when fitting the pistons & cylinders , must have been real tight or they used the wrong spec for the piston type . That will lock it up fast on a fresh build & heat . That's an inframe fix just so you know . Pass along to your buddy to ask what the running clearance is set to on the sylinder walls and make damn sure they ******** use new pistons . Seen some fly by night goobers just hone the cylinders a bit more and reuse the scuffed stuff again .

they told him they did'nt do anything to the motor just broke it loose with a big wrench, did'nt remove heads or anything.did take nosecone cover off and looked in there, but nothing else.just don't see how this engine could last along time.something has to be fcked up somewhere.
