What is the oldest tire you would feel safe riding? Does anyone know the widest tire you could put on a 78 lowrider front/rear? They are stock size now, Dunlop Elite 3. i like them but am looking at something different, this bike doesn't see a lot of miles just little day trips around the countryside. thanks.
Do you know how old the tires are? If not, and you don't feel comfortable about them, get rid of them. Get some piece of mind.
Personally, I don't like dunlops. There are better tires out there. Avon, Metzler, Michelin. MT90-16 is about as big as you are gonna get in a stock frame.
I figured out today that they are 7 years old. They have been keep in the garage only and have really low miles, less than 500. They still feel really sticky and don't show any signs of cracking or drying out. I have ridden them recently and have had no trouble with traction. I take it easy on the old iron....
That size is what i have on there now. I will just replace them with the same size.
When I bought my bike it was 8 years old, with only 2k on it. Most dealers told me the Dunlop 402s were OK, if not cracked. Dunlop told me to replace them if they were over 6 years old. To me, failure of tires is not an option, so I spent $500 and replaced them. To me it was worth the peace of mind.
tried ALL the above mentioned tires-- i now use the metzler ME800 and it makes all the difference in the world -- fantastic tires-- i noticed a huge difference right away..
