Default 76 FXE: Unknown threaded hole in Primary Cover???

I've been trying to figure out the purpose of an additional hole in my primary cover. I don't see it in any other photos of 76 FXE's or Shovels.

It's threaded for about a 1/4 screw, looks like it was added by a shade tree mechanic, and it' s located on the top-side of the cover (as you sit on the bike and look down, you're facing it) just forward of the starter relay area.

I can add a pic tonight if necessary.

Any thoughts? After-market Pressure gauge, maybe? Oil fill point?

Is the primary isolated? maybe a vent? most people just use the chain oiler as a vent, but you never know...

is anything in it now? picture would be good.

If you mean on the top of the primary just in front of the solenoid, FLH models have a 5/16-18 threaded hole that is used to mount the crossover pipe (FX models did not use them). How original is your bike? Outer primary covers can be interchangeable in some instances when modifications are made.

If you post a pic we can rule this out (or not).

Well, I'll post a pic to confirm but I think panz4ever just about nailed it. The more I work on this thing the more I find interesting oddities. Thanks.

BTW what mods would have been needed. I had the cover off shortly after purchase for inspection purposes and didn't notice anything else too strange (although this is my first shovelhead, so I could've missed something obvious).

That is the mount hole for a Phreblenoscope which monitors your left leg for unnecessary shifts.
Well, maybe not...
Actually, I am curious as well what that might be for. I've never seen one on anything.

It's a mount hole for your primary side pipe on a FL.
