Thanks oldskewl. Im on my third time. Another guy around my area told me to realign my heads to take up some of the gap. But if i loosen the bokts to turn the heads it will ruin the paper gasket hence pullin the heads to put new gasket in. Have tried splittin the difference and alternating the tightining sequence. So that is why i figured i was at my last resort.
No do not have the carb attached. Just holdin the manifold. I know you can get ruffly a quarter inch turn on the heads to help line up the manifold. Just dont want to ruin the gasket.
Hey oldskewl just got off phone with s&s and his first recomends realigning the heads. Which means pullin them and puttin new gasket in. So i guess now i need some tools i dont have! Lol some how i knew this would get worse. Thanks for all your help. Would post pics but cant figure tht out either..
Hey thanks just watched it. Tech said i dont have to pull rocker box off jst pull my push rods oil line n exhaust n thn the 4 bolts n pull the head. That true?
No reason to pull the rocker boxes.
Not sure if your bike has been ran with these head gaskets or if this was a fresh rebuild... Regardless, just make sure your heads are clean of the old gasket before installing the new one.
Before you get all crazy pulling the heads take just the intake and hold it to the heads and see how each side fits up with face of the intake held level and yes there is enough play in the head bolts to cause issues if isn't aligned properly . The air gap should be the same on both sides and not cocked if so you gotta pull them .
If you do pull the heads put everything in place with the head bolts in but not tight and then clamp the intake in place minus the O-rings bumping the heads as needed to get the best alignment then torque the head bolts down so everything stays aligned . Pull the intake use a good smear of Hylomar on intake & head on the lip the oring seats to and then clamp it up .
Thank twizted. There is a good gap and it doesnt seem aligned properly. If i line it up to the front head there is a good quarter inch gap at the rear head n only part of the intake touches the head. I was hoping not to pull the heads but seems tht is my only option. Thank you for your input. Headed to shop tomarrow for new gaskets i guess.
