Shovelforlife, it's not really clear to me how to remove the friction plates. I do have the service manual. Will it become clearer as I go through the process? I understand using the washer to keep the outer plate from flying off, but once I remove the three nuts does that outer assembly and the plates just pull out with the rod still attached?

once you remove the nuts -- the washer is the stay for the spring set then the outer spring plate and springs just comes off as an assembly / the clutch rod is not attached to it on the left side - once removed / the steel plates and the clutch discs can be removed by reaching in and pulling them out one by one --- it installs like its removed clutch disc first than a steel till you have them all installed, the entire set -- good luck - jz
