Default 69 with very hard clutch pull

Hello,
My shovel has a very hard pull to release the clutch. It takes some serious pull to work the lever. What can someone do to reduce the need for get green and rage to pull the clutch in? My hands get sore after a few miles of city driving.

Thank you,
mark

Has the springs in your clutch been traded off for heavy duty ones or pre 67 springs? Earlier springs were made for the foot clutch or clutch booster(aka mousetrap) they are much heavier than the hand clutch springs. If not it is probably your cable. You can try working grease or oil down it to see if it improves. Chain lube will also work. Also check to see if it is not frayed somewhere.

If it has the original primary cover on it with duel exhaust its a PITA to get it right, as every time an adjustment has to be made they have to be removed -- you might need to back off on the clutch springs but i would First lube the clutch cable really good - they make a cable luber tool that is handy to have -- johnjzjz

Thank you,
I will try and see if the cable needs some love before I open it up.

I had the same problem recently with my '79 FXEF and finally the cable broke, forcing me to buy a new one. It arrived, I gave the new one a shot of 30 weight and let it hang from the rafters for a couple hours till the oil dripped from the other end. Wiped it off, installed and "Man I couldn't believe the difference"!!!! (Like a new clutch). I'd start with the cheapest easiest route, before you tear into it. No more sore hands.
If it ain't the cable, run with the other suggestions. Best to ya'.

If a cable is needed, there is really only one name we reach for those, here.
Barnett.
