Default crank case vent

I have a 79 s.glide and ever since it was new have battled the vent line/ breather for the crank case. It originally vented at the air filter and would leak oil on my pipes. I then tried moving it by the trans. with a filter, bad idea. Any ideas on what to do with this appreciated.

If you don't have an enclosed wet primary try draging the vent hose, alot have I think it looks ignorant but better than leaking oil somewhere you don't want it

Vent it out the bottom,no filter.Might want to pull the nosecone off and have a look inside.Esp the vent gear, screen.A stroked motor is going to exhale more, updating the oil pump to an S&S unit may help, but in so doing your engine case may need oiling holes updated.A bad check valve at pump may be weeping when bike sits overnight ora few days.Scored stock style oil pump could also be the cause.

I tried the venting it out the bottom and I believe that it was putting oil spots all over the back of my bike when the tire would pick up oil. Could be as you say that it is putting out to much oil from the pump. When you mentioned the "nosecone", are you referring to the spring and plunger under the screwdriver cap on the oil pump?

At the nose cone area, once removed, check the breather gear, screen for debri. The return side of your oil pump may be scorn or possibly sheared key way.Orboth key ways may be sheared.Yet it sounds like youre getting oil pressure just cant scavenge the lower end enough. Can you see oil returning to tank?Does it increase w/rpm?If bike is doing this oil puking after sitting awhile then yes it may be just the ball seat leaking slightly under screw head you described.Spring could also be weak.Lapping the seat using old ball may work-Tacking old ball onto something longer is recommended then replace w/new ball and spring.

I vent my '66 and '67 via a hose so it vents on to the rear chain. It will drip a little oil when it's parked and on the jiffy stand.
