Does anyone know how or can give me instructions to the proper installation sequence of installing a Nacelle headlight assembly kit on my 74 Electra glide? I was able to get a complete aftermarket chrome kit, never opened and I want to install it. Im wondering what the "beer cans" in the kit do and why they are there also? The manual shows an exploded diagram but that really doesn't help when I have the bike all together and now have to start removing parts again
thanks
I'm surprised the shop manual doesn't tell you how - the one for my later model does... But here's what I did on mine, to get yo started- remove the headlight trim ring, then the headlight and flange that attaches to the nacelle. remove the trim spear (only loosen the nut) and the handlebar cover. then the nacelle comes off the four studs (two on eithe side). I may have missed a screw or two you will see when you get into it. Reverse for reassemblly. The tin cans bolt below the lower triple tree and cover the fork tubes - you have to remove the fork tubes to install them.

Joe, the manual I have shows just an exploded diagram of the parts but not exactly how and where they go. For the most part I should be able to figure that out however this bike does not have the nacelle on it and I am installing one. The kit I got at a good price I might add, has everything but there are a few things like where the cans screw or bolt too. they are oval and have two small holes at the top of one end. Do they screw to the underside of the bottom tree?
sounds like you have a parts manual not a service manual... not knowing what your kit includes, you may need the brackets on the sides that also hold up the windshield.
yes the cans screw to the underside of the bottom tree. hopefully you still have FL trees not FX, so the threaded holes are there.
softail / fxwg type trees dont work for the covers
FLH trees have a flat spot on the out side so the covers ( nacelles ) have a straight location to mount - FXST has a round bottom and no holes for the bolts But the top does well some early ones do - the Cow bells as they are called bolt to the bottom tree left and right sides, and the front wont look right with out them
if your trees do not have the flat spots and the threaded holes find the correct ones on Flea bay -- jz
the clips are in the hd manual numbers 13 and 12 and they are a wire spring clip. Three larger ones about 2.5 inch and one about 1.25 inch wide respectively. What do they do? Do they hold the gasket up or something?. Im usually able to figure stuff out but these are baffling
Looking at the picture in you other post. You are going to have problems installing that kit. The lower tree is not made for attaching the shroud or the cow bells. Also you front end is extended and the cowbells will be too short to cover the lower legs. You will have to get custom extended covers to make it look right. Those springs are for attaching the gasket and one is to center the headlight trim ring on the headlight bucket. The bucket has a slot to take the spring.
