I have not finished the handle bars project because that POS china master cylinder brake switch is not right. I need to run down a new OEM one. The transmission sprocket turned way harder than it should so I am running that down. Once I got the primaries off things turned free like they should. I am still going to pull the transmission and check it out, It leaked bad around that sprocket. I was very glad to see that the engine case lip is not damaged but the crank seal is just about rock hard. Once I get the transmission and oil tank off it will be easy to finish the wiring back there.Yea, that inner primary and starter housing have to go. It is almost like I had a plan.
The damage near the inner primary bearing and then repairs may have affected the ability to get alignment correct. Which is very important. How does the bearing feel when you try to turn it?

The bearing in the inner primary is good but I will not re-use it. I do not think that the welded inner is an original to the bike. '81 should have a 9 hole and this one is an 8 hole to attach the primary cover to the inner. Actually a 9 hole inner is a tough item to find unless one wants a Taiwan after market in chrome or polished. Mine will be wrinkle finish black as it should be.
I picked up this heavy duty vintage, made in the USA Cal Products 9 hole inner primary. It came from a running motorcycle, the bearing was a tight fit and it is not damaged any where else. From what I have read about these, they are made of high quality aluminum and were made with racing in mind. Some people were saying that these are the best inner primary's ever. It was listed as a FL model but I could see it was machined from the back for the bushing and seal. I just had to break through about .050" to the inside for the mid control shifter. My choices are limited and I am sure that this will work well. Cleaned up and wrinkle finish black it will look like an original only better. A well reinforced unit around the bearing and everywhere else.
Transmission and old wiring out. I had to remove the transmission studs and drain plug to get the transmission out because the carriage bolt is stripped ON so I could not remove the transmission the easy way being mounted to the plate. I will have to figure a way to get it apart. Then clean up and finish wiring.
