Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Will the after market industry produce higher performance parts for the new series of engines to the point where as you're looking at a whole new era for HD performance engines? I like the prospect of a S&S 124 for a new Breakout along with a better tranny. Is it possible that a revised Milwaukee 8 could compete with the S&S?
Now that's funny, and very true. Give it a little time and the large aftermarket companies will have products out there. The smaller one's will just play a game of monkey see monkey do and copy what they see the large companies produce, or just throw **** against the fence and see what sticks.
How many people are still willing to pay the Harley Tax to get the same performance that one could get out of the box from a different brand?
It is bad enough that the air cleaner, exhaust and tune is required right away just to make it run as it was designed by the engineers. Now who wants to throw another thousand dollars just to make it go faster than a Kia from a dead stop?

I'm not, which is why I kept my 06 Ultra Classic and built a 120" engine for it and bought a Goldwing for my other ride. Harley doesn't have any meat to go with the potatoes.
I am aware of several vendors that have had '17 model in their shops since they became available and expect to see some performance parts for the new motor pretty soon. Let's see who is first.....

Its possible an air cleaner and mufflers might not make much difference on the M8. Time will tell. But with a larger air filter and huge intake opening changing the air cleaner might not yield much other than looks. And someone who has taken an exhaust system apart has said there is far less baffle in the right muffler and it has a larger intake opening. Could it be that a stage 1 upgrade is not worth the money? A tuner is a different matter.
