Default 2000 Road King Crankshaft Position Sensor Plug

I bought a new CPS for my 2000 Road King and thought it was going to be easy to replace, I was wrong! I unbolted the sensor and pulled it out and that is all the farther I got. The sensor wire travels between the oil filter and the front jug and I have no idea where the plug goes after that. All of the plugs look the same underneath and the freakin' useless Clymer manual does not tell me anything other than showing a picture of the sensor. I work on all of my Harley's successfully but this one has me stumped. I cannot even look for the plug as the sensor just has exposed pins. Can someone send me a picture of where the plug is located and how to remove the pins? I am out of ideas.

Help!

Thanks!
John

See if this will help. From a 2001 RK wiring diagram it looks like the wires are Red and Black. From the parts diagram it looks like they go into a harness sleeve along with the oil pressure sender wires and eventually into a 2 pin connector. Good luck

Right hand side of the bike, about under the driver footboard there's a wad of wires and connectors. Here's a quote from another thread I just wrote :

If it is like mine, the stocker comes in a thick piece of flexible mesh tubing that's firmly attached to the frame. Can't pull the old one out (the connector on the end's too big) and can't get new one in if you cut the old one out. I just ran my new ones cable along parallel to that tube and tied it on securely with cable ties.

If the connector on the end of the new cable doesn't fit where the old one did, you've got a different problem, maybe the wrong part.

My cable has a little less protection from the slings and arrows of outrageous fate, but it's done quite well for many thousand miles so far
If your new sensor just has pins on the end of the wire, that means you'll need to take apart the connector on the old one and use the parts to make a connector on the new one, or get new connector parts. The FACTORY manual shows how to do this, I don't know if the Hanes does. My sensor came with a connector installed, butthat was years ago.

The plug is located behind the right side cover behind the ignition module. Look at the prongs for the little latch, pry up and slide the wire back on each. The wires run along the right frame rail, cut the zip ties and slide it out the front.

If it's the MM system it might be under timing cover on frame. Mine looks as though both crank sensor & cam sensor go into the same plug. That's probly why the sell it like that as the are different plugs for different systems.

It is the Magnetti Marelli fuel injection system (sadly) The plug under the timing cover rail is way different and after separating the halves, looks like their are no red and black wires going into it. I am going to order an HD service manual but for now, I am winging it.

lt1-xjs: I did not remove that cover yet but will tonight after work. What does the ignition module look like? That is the same side that my Power Commander is in, correct?
