My clutch lever suddenly went slack and the lever stayed against the handlebars. Had to have the bike trailered home. Thought it was a broken clutch cable so I replaced it. No change. (The old cable still looked ok) So I removed the primary and pulled the clutch pack. Everything looks fine. Still have a ton of slack in the cable though. There's not enough adjustment to take up all the slack. It happened suddenly so when I took everything apart I really thought I'd see something broke. Nope, everything looked seems perfect.
I have the shop manual but not sure what to look for anymore.
If the center adjuster in the clutch pressure plate is still in place and the clutch not falling off the shaft, the throwout bearing probably disintegrated..
ramp and ball looked perfect. There really are no springs on my clutch pack. There's a spring like plate that seemed to be in good shape. The throw out bearing is on the ball and ramp side, right? hmmm. I didn't look at that. Damn. Looks like I'm draining the transmission again.
That's what mine looks like. It seems springy. It looks like it's in good shape. Do you think it should look damaged since the clutch lever to the bar happened so suddenly?

I would think so..
Check your throw out bearing.
Is your motor stock?
What year are we talking about?
Bought a new throwout bearing. Haven't gone back in to the clutch cover side yet. That bearing is so small. I don't see how that would allow the lever to suddenly go to get completely slack and rest on the handlebar but... ****, definitely worth replacing. It was only a couple bucks. Thanks for the direction on what to do. I'll update the thread as soon as I get it fixed.
