My guess his type always backs down quickly, and playing on the uniforms would humbling him quickly.
Take your mom with you for the apology, and capture it for Youtube.
I think in such a situation you're absolutely right to avoid the potential of physical alteration because a records not worth.
I'd love to have videoed your 70 year old mom telling a bad *** biker to go **** himself! Good for her.
Screw the guys for criticizing you not to "man up". You played a curved ball he was not expecting and got him. I just don't think it is finished, or should be finished, as it stands.
May be get your mom and a few of her friends to go back, with you guys in the background in uniform, and really take the p*** out of him telling them what they think and seeing how they react.
Even better if she has 70 year Vet friends to go with her.
Turn it into a fiasco.
He's not a "bad *** biker". He's a little old man who likes to yell at people because he knows he can call the cops on you once you confront him. Maybe I didn't make this part clear - he's a little old guy who likes to bark. I figured sending a little old woman would help him realize that this situation is stupid.

And with this comment I'm done. You're as bad as the owner of this shop - an internet tough guy. You'd be shocked to learn that many of us who can actually fight have learned over the years to avoid it when we can.
Avoiding a fight and not going to jail is all well and good but getting into an argument over the phone and escalating the situation was your fault. It take 2 to argue....... Then after you get into a pissing match over the phone you send your elderly mother there to clean up your mess. I think thats what has everyone up in arms. You took the punk way out and sent your mama into hostile territory. There was a million different ways to handle this situation that didnt involve fighting or hanging your own mother out to dry. Call it internet tough guy talk if that helps you sleep better @ night but a Man should handle his own affairs and not run to his mama for help

I didn't start an argument. I just wanted my shocks. And here's the catch - this guy is half my size and twice my age. If I were to have gone up there and gotten into a fight, who goes to jail? ****, I just sent someone his age up there in hopes of calming things down. I am NOT getting into a fight with someone 100 lbs smaller than me and 20 yrs older. I'll end up in prison. Sorry if you don't get that.
I had them order a part (front monotube) a week ago. They told me they couldn't schedule installation until the part arrived. Fine. I called them after the part arrived and asked to schedule, they said they couldn't because they had too many bikes waiting on repairs. I said 1 week... 2 weeks? They said "they will get to it when they get to it" so I said I'll pick up the part and take the bike elsewhere. This is when the owner of the shop lost his mind. We ended up in a screaming argument on the phone. I was pissed and I knew that I would end up in a fight if I went in person so I asked my mom to pick it up. It's really that simple. I didn't think this idiot would start yelling at her just for picking up a part. All I was trying to do was get front monotubes installed and they were quite friendly until I said I wasn't willing to wait weeks for installation.
Now I'm confused...in your first post you said you politely told him you would pick up the part now you're in a screaming match? Like I said, three sides to every story, his, yours, and the truth. He has no bad reviews because he threatens people who leave them? What about the people who left good reviews, are they all liars, or do they fear for their lives?
File this under "I'm sorry I ever mentioned it" and move on. Slamming a shop on the Forum never turns out well. I think you did the right thing by having a third party pick up the part.

Look dude we can go back n forth till our fingers fall off from typing but you aint gonna win nobody over. You said you argued and screamed over the phone. That was your choice and your doing. Instead of arguing and screaming over the phone you shouldve just went down there as soon as you felt the run around asked for your property and left. If dude half your sized yells @ you what are you soo afraid of? Ignore the yapping chihuahua and go about your business

I did politely ask to pick up the parts and he started screaming. I responded as I tend to with aggression and got into a shouting match. My first inclination was to go up there and confront him - I thought about it for a minute and decided that me going up there was a bad idea. This is a little old guy who likes to bark but I don't have the personality for that. My mom's apartment is next to the shop so I asked her to pick up the parts because I figured that would be a calm resolution to what I originally wanted to do. Trust me, my first thought was to show up there with multiple veterans and confront him. But then I realized that I'll probably end up in jail and is this really worth it?

If you don't get why a bigger/younger guy getting into a physical fight with a smaller/older guy is reason for concern, you haven't been in many fights. And you definitely haven't been arrested for fighting.

Mommy, he won't give me my ball back, boo hoo hoo, sniffle. Will you go get it for me Mommy?

They would probably have laughed at you too.
Some things are better left unsaid, this is one of those things.
