I do the same as cvaria. Route the cable under the tank and use a really short charging cable. I usually only charge when I'm stopped though so I plug it in and throw it in my saddlebag while I have lunch or a drink.

I did what cvaria did, and I have a quick-release RAM mount for my phone. I like this stuff to all come off easily without leaving anything behind, as I only use it when on a trip. Otherwise I don't want any of it on my bike. Here's my charger, it attaches to the battery tender whip. I keep a USB charging cable running under the tank console, but I leave the rear coiled up under the seat and the front pushed under the front of the tank. It's invisible when I don't need it, but pulls right out when I do. I keep this charger thing in my battery bag, in case I need any unexpected charging ever...
