Default New sportster security upgrade

Hello looking at a new 48. Do you still have to use the key in the ignition switch and a key fob with the security? If so it doesn't seems like its worth it, or am I missing something?

if you get security from the factory no key are needed. comes with neck lock key though. if you add security after, you have the option of removing the key via dealer programming of the BCM or keeping both.

security is worth it, period.

if you turn the key on a bike with security and the fob isn't present, you have only a few seconds to put in a pin before the bike lets the world know you don't have your fob and immobilizes.

same with one without a key. if you rock the run switch to on with no fob present and don't put it a pin, the bike throws a fit and immobilizes.

some folks never reset their pin from the last 5-6 numbers of their vin number. the system doesn't tell you it has been triggered while you were away. any fiend in the know will try that on a keyless bike and walk away if it's wrong, they can keep trying new codes over an extended time frame because they don't leave a trace of having tried.

the key (assuming there's a stock set up) adds another layer of security and tamper detection because you actually need a key or to break the cylinder/hotwire to trigger the pin request. that would leave a mark letting you know the bike has been molested.
