Default Fairing Bolts....

I recently installed a new sound system on my Street Glide. While taking the fairing off, one of the blots stayed in the threaded
port that was attached to the inside of the fairing.....Any ideas as to how I fix this? Thanks in advance

Gets some really good epoxy and glue the insert back into the inner fairing. JB Weld would probably work just fine.

The HD dealer has inserts for this.

Do you mean you pulled out a threaded insert? If so, use 16585-96 which as a replacement part. Here is a pic of the new insert (circled on right) next to the stock one that breaks loose in the plastic (on left)

Looking at the new insert it is deceiving because it looks like the slot uses a screwdriver to thread it in. This is incorrect. That side goes in first. Take a 3/8 x 16 bottoming tap which coincides with the OD threads on the insert and cut the first few threads in the hole

Next take a 1/4-20 x 1 bolt and two nuts to use as a driver. Thread the bolt into the new insert as shown in the pic below

Turn the insert into the hole. Turn it in until it is sticking out the same distance as the other two. Viola! You can now put your outer fairing back on and use the stock 1/4-20 bolt in your newly repaired hole
