I agree. The whole bike looks like a squished/wonky soft tail and just reminds me of the Yamaha Bolt.
Hopefully HD figures out they made a mistake and we'll get a real Dyna again in a few years. I was actually looking forward to the M8 engine despite whatever growing pains it maybe having. Just look how far the TC came since '98.
Other than the looks some may prefer I can't see this design being a fundamental improvement over the mono shock tail. Were it me, I'd spend the time and money on an aluminum mono tail and shock design. But that's just me.
Now, if they wanted to really step it up they should build two different dampers...one for compression, one for rebound. The arm would have to be stiff, tho.

I'll admit, I really would like to take that bike for a spin...bone stock from the dealer does nothing for me, I want to feel what a properly set-up one feels like in the twisties...

I don't think anyone is expecting an actual performance increase. The only increase it would get is from the higher quality shocks compared to the stock.
I've said it before in the other threads, but HD is 99% look/feel. If I want a corner carving super sonic missile, I'd get a sport bike. The 2018 just looks nasty. If I wanted that hard-tail look, I'd just build a hard tail. I love the Super Glide look of the old Shovels, FXRs and Dynas.
