When the 6 gallon tank can out on the 2008, there were many questions about if they can be mounted on earlier frames? It can be done but with many part changes and welding on the frame. To change the mounting locations for the motor will require removing the motor to cut the old locations and weld the new one in place.
The motor mounting locations were changed along with the location for the coil and a new seat.
The Fuel Tank and seat points mounting points were moved. The seat was changed to make room for the new tank. The seat does not have the same mounting locations. They are not even close.
The 6 gallon tank has made the '08 frame a "One Year" frame.

I would recommend anyone tempted, to try fitting one of these. Any new tank, including Harley ones, are very expensive, but take-offs can be bought very cheaply off ebay. I have been messing around with one on my 1990 FLHS and am close to achieving it. If you have a late bike with very thick wiring harness there may be ways of avoiding cutting and welding, also of juggling the top stabilizer rather than welding it so that the tank will fit.
What I found is that what gets in the way of fitting the tank is the bolt holding the stabilizer onto the head steady. The tank has a flat bottom at that point. For a handy welder it would be possible to cut and weld the tank. I have just been playing around with things, my current solution being to fit the stabilizer under the head steady. There is more to it that that, but there are plenty of bright owners out there, to work it out!
