Default Carb question

Got a quick question about carbs. I have a 99 Heritage, when I give the bike gas I get a "cough" out of the carb. Does not happen all the time but happens enough. Also when riding at highway speeds and I give it some throttle, to me it feels like the response is not there, kinda bogs down and then picks up speeds. I have braided spark plug wires on the bike but I don't feel a tickle or anything from them when the bike is running. What could be the issue?

Thanks

Default RE: Carb question

Jsk,

Check out the EVO section under the heading carb cough.

Found my cough was caused by bad intake seals (fixed 80%) and running alittle lean (fixed the remaining 20%). I still get an occasional cough when the engine is cold or the air temp is cold. EVO's aresensitive that way and are a little cold natured.

Default RE: Carb question

If the problem suddenly surfaced, it's probably an intake leak making the bike run lean. Pull the carb and intake manifold and replace gaskets. The condition you describe is usually a result of lean jetting. My bike did this stock until I rejetted the pilot circuit a few sizes richer and shimmed the needle up a hair with a washer.
