Hey everyone... its me.. again! Well this time I need to know the purpose for making the heritage softail.. If anyone has info you know what to do.
Thanks,
Korbin
The Heritage Softail was originally made to do away with the extermal shock system, and give the impression that the bike was a hardtail while giving a suspension that wouldn't cause you to pee blood in 200 miles.
The old traditional HD's, until I think 1958, had a rigid frame with no rear suspension. That is what the softail is made to imitate.
If you are refering to the 06 Heritage Vs the Heritage classic, the Heritage has the silver motor. So my guess it is that If you like the look of the Heritage it is cheaper to get into than the classic or the Deluxe for that matter. But what do I know
I've got an '05 Heritage Classic and wondered the same thing...
So, the other day I popped off my bags and windshield and PRESTO!!! I had a "new" bike!!! After riding around like this for a day, I realized this configuration might fill a niche for someone who wants a Fatboy style scooter, but with bigger fenders and laced wheels. This venture only costs HD a little in advertising and the setup for the unique paint scheme. Not much of an investment for a "new" bike which they tout as "...the most affordable FL model...".
OBTW, I had the new Heritage up on the screen and my wife asked me, "Does that one sit any lower than your Heritage Classic? I wonder if I could handle it?" Hmm... Maybe their marketing works.
My best guess...
I think they were after a big FL style bike, but inexpensive..
More stripped down, with no bags and passing lights to allow a more affordable FL softail.
The silver powdercoated engine is a nice touch.
They were after a clean, no-studs, no-frill look.
The purpose of the Heritage Softail Classic. Thats easy. It was made to make me happy!!!! And it worked!! Seriously I believe the bike competes with the old and the new in the way it looks and handles. Modern day masterpiece!
