Switching out my beach style bars for 18" apes this weekend. Hopefully I'll have good luck and not be here asking questions. Youtube does have tons of videos. I have a few saved for each step in the process for me.

I also suggest checking out the tips and tricks on draining your tank before removing it. helps to not make a huge mess in the middle of a project. While replacing the clutch cable, I recommend having the right snap ring pliers. Also when you pop that snap ring due it in a Frisbee or a bucket or something because some pieces may come out that you didn't expect. Like I said these may be elementary problems I am talking about but my first time this is what happened to me. Hope you like the apes!
Thanks a ton man, I already had the thought process of the throttle cables, just have to decide how to not cross them, as for the right snap right pliers I have to look into that still. And I already have had the tank off and did make a big mess, so will have to look for those tips, thanks sooo much hoping to get some warmer weather here soon so I can get started on this.

You tube videos huh, good idea there. Well when I do get to doing this I plan on taking pics and will post them as I go. Thanks for the tip tho.

Tank is easy,
1. buy a new piece of hose for the crossover, new clamps too, the stock ones suck.
2. clamp both sides about 2" from the clamps with small vice grips
3. cut the hose in the middle with a pair of pliers
4, remove fuel input hose
5. unbolt front and rear of tank and remove.

Done.

No muss no fuss,

Once the tank is off, you can sit it with the hose ends in a drain pan and remove the clamps to let them drain. Replace the hose and new clamps and you're GTG

If you can subscribe to fixmyhog.com, they have a full series on changing out bars, wire extension, the whole thing. I found this invaluable (along with my service manual) as a tool to make the process easier. And for $8 for the year (got a discount code from American Iron) it was well worth it!!

I will be reviewing the videos on there as I am going to be doing my buddy's Road King (14" apes) at the end of the month.

Blue painters tape and a sharpie works WONDERS.

Bag and tag EVERYTHING. The little bit of time you take to do that will pay off in spades!
