I am about to buy a set up 10 inch ape hanger bars set on my 07 Deluxe. Anyone do this, and do the work themselves, and how long did it take you? The bars I'm getting also are 1-1/4 inch up from the stock 1 inch, which makes getting new grips that much harder it seems. Any input and help/advise would be appreciated.

its not difficult, it can be a p.i.t.a. if you're running wires internally.. take your time.. it can be done under an hour.. since its your 1st time probably about 2 hrs.. the grips shouldn't be hard to find the handlebars will reduce to 1 inch at the ends..
I just put 10inch mini apes on my deluxe. Used 1 inch risers and ran wires interaly. Had to extend wires but all other stock cables fit. Could use a little longer clutch cable but works fine. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
Well Mickey, I am getting a set up all prewired internally,as well as plug and play too. Oh ok, didn't know that on the ends reducing. good I have a set of grips I want too. Perry, the throttle cable, clutch cable and brake lines are all included in this stainless steel too, to the correct length, and I plan on going with 1-1/2 in risers. My biggest question was how hard is it to change the clutch and throttle cables. The clymer manuel shows how, but it's a lot of work.
YouTube has a bunch of videos on the subject and it's pretty straight forward. I would also pick up an extra set up those snap rings that hold the clutch lever pivot pin. I've had them become airborne etc. The only ones I've found that work are the HD ones the ones in the hardware stores are too thick.

Which company has the pre made wire kits that are plug and play? I am also installing 10" mini apes.

Yes, thanks Cajun for reminding me of those, I have a list of parts I need to get from Harley soon, and that needs to be added to it.
I have done bar swaps on bikes but I had never done cables until this last spring. many of the dumb mistakes I made you will not experience due to your handle bars already being wired. I do suggest to pay close attention to your throttle cables when hooking them up. I accidentally hooked mine up backwards and for some reason it was a nightmare getting them back out. I also suggest checking out the tips and tricks on draining your tank before removing it. helps to not make a huge mess in the middle of a project. While replacing the clutch cable, I recommend having the right snap ring pliers. Also when you pop that snap ring due it in a Frisbee or a bucket or something because some pieces may come out that you didn't expect. Like I said these may be elementary problems I am talking about but my first time this is what happened to me. Hope you like the apes!
