Default Considering adding hard bags, need advice/opinions

Hey guys,

So I'm really considering adding hard bags to my 08 Deluxe, mainly of course for storage purposes and SOUNDS!!!!!

So I'm looking for companies that offer bags for my setup, I guess what IDK is what hard bags I can add with my current pipes. I really don't want to change my pipes.

I'm also curios to see if anyone w/ my paint colors has added hard bags and what the paint scheme looks like w/ this color.

I'm also looking for a "quick detach" setup so that I can add/remove the bags with ease, I also would like stretched bags.

Cyclevisions makes the baggertail conversion kit. And DNA makes the extended bags. I just put the same setup on my heritage springer. 4" extended bags. They should fit no problem with the pipes you have.

I thought about he same type of project on my Deluxe... Here is what I was thinking.

Gotta get the Cyclevisions mount kit with the quick-detach pins for the bags. For you, I'd probably get the black brackets since everything else on yours is blacked out (and the bike looks phenomenal by the way).

Second, pick your bags.. I personally like the style of these ones here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-4-STRETC...b2aae0&vxp=mtr
I think they would look great on your bike too - the style line in the side would look great if you did a two-tone that is separated by the style line. Maybe white up top with the silver underneath - separated by the black pinstripe you have? One thing to maybe search for would be a set of bags with style-lines similar to this, but with no exhaust cutouts since you are staying with your current setup.

Third, consider the cyclevisions gap guards. I think they help to create a nice clean look between the bags and fenders.

As far as installing a set of tunes in the bags... I've thought about that too - but I am so unfamiliar with that I don't even want to get into it. I thought about getting dual speaker lids, and mounting the amplifier inside the bags. What I am unsure of is whether or not I can just use and iPod to power the system, or if I need an actual receiver/deck. It would be cool, but mostly, I just want a really nice place for storage.

Look forward to seeing any results you come up with!

EDIT** Just found these ones.. Seems like thy would look pretty neat on your ride!

Thanks kizzle!

Those baggerbags are sick!

So just from some browsing, Im looking at $400 for the cycle vision bag mounts and about $500 for the 4" extended baggerbags.

Not even including paint, locks/hinges or any sounds, Im already at around $900.

Do any stock bags off of another model work for this?

First rule of HDForums:

Have an open wallet, because we LOVE spending other people's money! All kidding aside, though.. Putting on hard bags ain't going to be cheap no matter how you do it. You can use a factory set of bags from a road king/street glide, etc. Remember, though - they are Harley bags, so you are going to pay for that too.

I think that the BaggerBags site has a pretty good deal - you can select your bags for $329-$450, add a complete chrome latch hardware kit from them for another $215..

You might be lucky to score a deal on some factory bags on Craigslist, the touring classifieds on here, or on eBay.. But my guess is either way you are going to have nearly $1K just in the bags alone. Start putting tunes to it, and you can (easily) add another thousand. That's why I think one I get the bags on... That will be it. I can make my own music underneath every bridge and in every tunnel.

Let us know what you decide.... We've got your checkbook ready. Lol!

What do you guys think about these 2 products?

Is this everything I need for a quick release setup?

I like these because they do not have the exhaust cutouts, I think the only thing is that I would have to replace the lids to place some speakers in them. What are my options on 4" bags as far as speaker sizes that will fit? Obviously I will have to place everything in these bags, speakers, amp(s) any riding gear (probably just a jacket), etc.

On the first item - the bracketry setup... Looks like you should have everything you need. Notice that the main difference between this setup and the CycleVisions is that it does NOT have the brace between the rear of the bags that crosses underneath the rear fender. This (from what I have read) helps a LOT in the bouncing/shaking/rattling of the bags. Something to keep in mind if you are going to be putting electronics in there (not to mention that things that vibrate tend to inherit stress fractures after a while)... If it were me, I'd go CycleVisions.

The bags look good to me - they aren't stretched (which you have mentioned wanting), but they look good, and for $125/bag with latches, a pretty good deal. If you are looking to do speakers - there are a TON of different lid options out there, and you can also mount them on the inside walls of the bags facing into the rear wheel to make them more "hidden" - but this will sacrifice interior storage space. This can be accomplished with a simple jigsaw and you are pretty unlimited as to what you can mount there. Most speaker lids fit a 6X9 or 5X7 from what I have seen - some even fit duals.

Here is my opinion - go with STRONG brackets, because you WILL be putting more than just a pair of gloves in these bags... And two - make sure you get the bags you want.. Because paint is expensive too!

The last word - if you want an economical and decent package - what you are looking at is a great start. You'll have to switch the lids, but no biggie there (ASSUMING that the new lids will fit the bags correctly).

I probably wasn't much help, was I? Lol. There again - I have been struggling with my own build. I can't seem to figure out if I want to go all chrome on the front end or completely powder it. Ugh. Everything always has to be so **** difficult.
