Default Gas Gauge Popped Loose

2004 Deuce, gas gauge has popped loose. I guess a tang broke. Any fix such as some type of silicone to keep in place?

Or should I get new one and if so, how are those wires feed through gas tank? If there a tube to feed them through? Im not understanding how the gas tanks are constructed to allow me to feed those wires through to bottom.

Thanks!!

Wires go through a tube and out the bottom of the tank.

Good time to get a flush gauge and gas cap.

I agree with the previous post. Tons of options, get a new one.

Isn't the gauge just a press fit? If the gauge works, the wiring and connector aren't damaged, I'd press it tight and ride. It it's loose, put a piece of tape on the side to tighten it up.

this is all good news to me. a couple weeks after i got mine i knocked the guage halfway off against some other handlebars in my junky garage. no gas came out (full tank for semi storage) and i didn't smell any, so i pushed it back and it seemed to be ok, and nothing leaked when i got a chance to ride it a few mls.

i figured it wasn't actually in the tank, but i'm glad to know for sure. thanks.

You should be fine. Just if something on it broke and it doesn't fit as snug as you'd like, do as someone else said and add some tape or something around the inside of the tank opening to get it to sit in their tighter.

The gas gauge just pulls out. The opening that it sits in does not open to the inside of the tank and to the fuel which is why you smelled no gas or had no leaks. The gauge sits in this cavity and the wires to the gauge feed through a small hole at the bottom of this cavity which is actually a small tube that passes through the tank and out the bottom. You feed the wires through it by removing the plug on the end and just pulling them through.
