Stainless hardware vs chrome
I started out with chrome allen head bolts but inside the heads rusted. You can coat them with clear fingernail polish and it helps. I am very particular and when my scooter gets wet or washed it gets blown off, wiped down and dried but still there was rust. I came to the conclusion ss was the only way to prevent rust.
I went with grade 8, 12 point show polished ss for most of the hardware. I got mine at a great deal from Topline Fasteners but they have gone out of business. I have since used Alloybotz and they are top shelf. For the applications where 12 point will not work I usually get the proper ss fastener and polish it myself. You can get a buffing wheel and supplies from Harbor Freight and with coupons it's very reasonable. You can polish them and most will never know it's not chrome. I made a bracket for my swingarm bag out of ss and polished it to a mirror finish.
As already mentioned be aware of grade and the characteristics of dissimilar metals. Use an approved product such as anitseize or loctite.
To me, dealing with the fasteners just gives it that "extra touch"
