Have you ever thought about carbing that bike Ink? Make your life a whole lot easier. Plus you can cut about 20 lbs of unneeded wire off it.

Ah no carb that's the go then, I almost converted to carb just to make this tank project easier. The biggest issue we are facing is modifying the fuel pump, and the fact we are narrowing the tank 2", but the base is so narrow already it can't be narrowed at all or the pump won't fit. So there's many hours of fab work to tackle this.

Yeah the tabs are coming off also and we are welding mounts to the back bone for the front tank mount, the rear tank mounting blocks we cut out and a tab going in place at the rear to catch that rear factory mounting point on top of the back bone. By the time it's finished I think it'll be 2" narrower x 1" lower x 2" shorter with the tunnel with be shaped back into a point, wrapping the back bone for a snug fit.

Kinda aiming for this size and position

Hey Lundee, man just saw you reply after I posted. Yeah so close to going carb for those very reasons. What's stopping me is the money I've literally just invested in this TB setup in the last few months, and that I still have a ton of money to pour into the other build to finish it. I really wish I had just gone carb from the begging.

Went I went to put a base tune in the new motor setup early this year I found that the SE tuner was missing $700 AUD later I got another one. The $700+ for the new SE 58mm TB and manifold, then we port matched the manifold up to the heads, then another $400 into time designing the intake back plate and then having it cnc'd out of billet. So $1800 AUD plus a lot of time invested into this EFI setup that I will not see anywhere near back. Like I said, I wish I went carb now but I'm going to try make this EFI ugly mess work. If it was a show bike, using a nice frame I guess I would bite the bullet and change over. But in reality it's an ugly frame to begin with with that square back bone.

I'm looking at redoing all the wiring in a neater way. Would like to drill the back bone up above the throttle body to hide the wiring, but I need to talk to an engineer about if and how it can be done with out weakening the back bone. I've got an idea, just need to put it forward to him

No the has to mount to the bottom of the tank, and the problem is with narrow tanks that come back to a point is the pump is about 2 3/4" at widest point. Plus the hieght of the pump as well, the rear of the tank is too shallow in most cases. That's why efi sportsters gas tanks sit flat. And that's why no one does efi frisco mounted tanks. But I'm going to **** with that pump and come up with a solution

Yea this how it sat on my bike before shortening it. Should fit pretty flat now and now that I got my garage close to set up I can get ready to start playing with everything again and I can't wait lol. I was also thinking about welding in a new gusset and getting rid of the hideous one now that it will be open. You read my mind Dave! The half cut square gusset is ugly as, I been thinking of cutting it too and weld a tube or something creative in its place. Some suggest to remove it all together for that cleaner look, but I like them in there

Are you going to utilise that rear backbone mount?

I don't know Ink. Now that you've mentioned it I'm going to have to look into when I get back cracking on it.
